How To Make Your Own Makeup Brush Holder

My oldest daughter is abroad at college and it's her birthday this week so I wanted to transport her something special for the occasion (and something piece of cake to ship too!)  She mentioned she didn't accept any decent makeup brushes so I fabricated a trip to Sephora to splurge on a new gear up for her.  While I was there I thought nigh something to hold them all and wanted to requite her a niggling handmade souvenir to go with the new brushes.  I thought a cute material pouch would exist perfect so I stitched upward a makeup castor holder with some leftover textile remnants from my stash.

This was one of those projects that I made upwardly as I went along simply I tell you this, if yous can run up a straight line, y'all tin can make your own too!  Here's how I made this cloth makeup brush holder for my college girl in virtually an 60 minutes.

Beginning grab yourself some textile, for this I used ii remnants, one a bluish medallion cotton wool fabric, the other a cotton wool duck lining.

Here are the measurements of cloth used:

fabric holder measurements

Beginning get-go past sewing your within pouch.  Have your outset slice of liner fabric (see diagram above) and fold it in half.  Lay it on pinnacle of the second slice of liner fabric and roughly map out the location of your brushes.  They really but need to be spaced about 1inch apart, mine are i ½ inches in the picture below which ended up being also much simply I added extra pouches in the terminate so information technology all worked out.  Pivot your folded over piece of fabric to your liner piece and run up together where pinned.

align brushes on pouch

Side by side stitch the private brush pouches one by one and varying past size.  Use your brushes as your guide if necessary.

To tie information technology upward at the end, you'll need some straps, then make some with two strips of fabric.  To go them right side out, weave a safety pin fastened to ane edge through the strap to reveal the exterior of the fabric.  It helps to press the straps flat with an iron before sewing them to the brush holder.

sew straps

Once your individual brush pouches and straps are sewn, flip the liner + pouch inside out and layer it on top of the exterior fabric.  Make sure that exterior fabric is also turned inside out and then that the front end of the pouch and front of the exterior fabric are facing each other.  Pivot and sew together, making certain the straps are sewed inside the holder, and assuasive iii to 4 inches of an opening in 1 corner.

Flip your fabrics right side out to reveal your makeup brush holder, you're almost washed! Now it's time to seal upwardly your opening.

You can apply a simple stitch on meridian of course (similar I did with these placemats) or you lot can do a decorative edge.  Ever since I got this new sewing auto I've been dying to try out the fancy stitches and then I went for it.  Number 50 it is!

decorative stitch

OK, how absurd is this?  I pressed the button and along the seam was an instant decorative border, uh-may-zing!  I used information technology to seal the opening shut and give the makeup brush holder a niggling bit of somethin' extra.

You can fold up the makeup castor kit in a roll and tie it closed with the straps for travel, how fantastic is that?

So that's my pace by step to making a simple cloth makeup brush holder.  You can use the aforementioned technique to create a holder for artist's brushes or pens and pencils too.
